Tranquility High Speed Wireless Internet FAQ

Why is the Internet so slow? You say WiMAX is faster.

We can measure the speed of our network, but we can’t control the performance of the Global Internet Cloud. We just make sure you can get to and from it as fast as we can.

How many users can use my modem at the same time? Is sharing possible?

The modem only provides one connection to the Internet, but we can help you configure it to work on a WiFi router or a network to support multiple simultaneous users. Many laptops can share network connections with other devices.

Why can’t I use my Clear modem/Sprint phone/WiMAX laptop on your WiMAX network?

WiMAX standards provide a very high level of security and only authorized devices are allowed on a WiMAX network. WiMAX devices are configured at the factory to recognize specific networks. We are working on roaming agreements with other networks but they are not completed at this time.

Will I need a permit or zoning permission to install your modem or antenna?

Why is my connection speed fast some days and slow others?

If you move your system closer to a tower, performance will increase up to your plan speed limit. If you move farther from a tower it will go down.

Why does Billy get a faster connection than I do even when we’re in the same location? He’s using the same modem.

He may have a different service plan. Let me check yours and see if we offer an upgrade. Some computers are faster than others.

What is meant by monthly traffic? How is that different from my plan speed?

Your plan speed is how big a pipe you have for data. Monthly traffic is how much data you run through that pipe.

How can I check my connection speed?

We have a speed test URL that helps with that.  To check your speed within the wireless network please click here.

My DSL/cable goes out a lot. How often will WiMAX go out?

Since there are no wires, there are no wires to fail. Your modem needs power to operate. Our network has battery and generator backup systems.

Is there a deposit for the modem?

Only on month-to-month plans.
